Alejandro Sabella falleció a sus 66 años luego de estar internado dos semanas por diversos inconvenientes cardíacos, renales y respiratorios.
Surgido de las divisiones inferiores, campeón como jugador y ayudante técnico de River, y el último gran técnico que tuvo la Selección Argentina. Sabella se encontraba internado en el Instituto Cardiovascular de Buenos Aires y falleció esta tarde a sus 66 años.
Sus primeros pasos como jugador en River fueron en 1970. Sabella fue enganche en el equipo de Ángel Labruna que consiguió tres títulos locales. En total disputó 133 partidos y convirtió 12 goles para terminar yéndose al Sheffield United en 1978.
Luego pasó por el Leeds, Ferro, Gremio y Estudiantes, donde dejó un gran recuerdo. En el 2009, en su primera experiencia como director técnico, llevaría al Pincha a conseguir la Copa Libertadores en 2009 y pondría de rodillas al mejor Barcelona de la historia en la final del Mundial de Clubes.
Al Más Grande volvería en 1989 como ayudante técnico de Daniel Pasarella, con quien siempre mantuvo una gran relación. Ese sería su primera etapa ya que luego volverían a dirigir al Millonario entre 2006 y 2007.
