Con excepción de Milton Casco que volvió al 11 titular tras superar el cuadro gripal y del ingreso de Rodrigo Aliendro por Juan Fernando Quintero, Marcelo Gallardo mandó a la cancha una formación muy similar a la que viene jugando en los últimos tres partidos. Miguel Borja, que estaba en duda, fue titular esta noche. Los titulares de River: Franco Armani, Andrés Herrera, Emanuel Mammana, Javier Pinola (C), Milton Casco, Enzo Pérez, Nicolás De La Cruz, Pablo César Solari, Agustín Palavecino, Rodrigo Aliendro y Miguel Borja.

En los primeros minutos de la primera mitad, el conjunto del Muñeco Gallardo se paró en el campo del José Dellagiovanna con una formación 4-1-3-2 con Aliendro de enganche, Solari y Borja como puntas y De La Cruz de volante por izquierda. Unos primeros 45 minutos en los cuales no hubo muchas emociones ni se generaron situaciones de peligro en ninguna de las dos áreas. Muy disputado en el mediocampo y por las bandas. A los 24 recién llegó a primera ocasión de gol de River tras un centro venenoso de Herrera por derecha que no pudieron conectar de cabeza ni Solari ni Borja por el segundo palo. Un minuto después el Colibrí tuvo otra ocasión de gol en un contraataque comandado por De La Cruz pero número 9 de River definió mal en un mano a mano que tapó de buena manera Manuel Roffo. A los 36, cuando se lo notaba al local con mayor intensidad en ataque, el Millonario abrió el marcador de la mano de Solari. Tras una excelente recuperación de Enzo Pérez en mitad de cancha, el uruguayo metió un pase entre líneas en el momento justo y el Pibe sin pensarlo aprovechó la salida del “1” del Matador para tirársela por encima y convertir el 1-0 provisorio. Sobre el final, Mateo Retegui disparó desde la medialuna del área pero se encontró con la muralla Armani que, sin muchos inconvenientes, despejó al córner.
En el segundo tiempo el equipo intentó salir a la cancha con la misma intensidad y dinámica que tuvo en los minutos finales de la primera mitad, pero se encontró con un Tigre que le sacaba las pelotas fácilmente y le dominaba la mitad de la cancha. A los 12 minutos el Matador estuvo a centímetros de empatar el partido tras un tiro desde la mitad de la cancha de Retegui, que vio a Armani adelantado, que rosó el palo derecho del “1” riverplatense. A los 17 el Muñeco Gallardo movió el banco de suplentes cuando mandó a la cancha a Esequiel Barco y Lucas Beltrán por Agustín Palavecino y Miguel Borja, respectivamente. A los 22 Lousteau cobró a través del VAR penal para el conjunto de Diego Martínez, que fue intercambiado por gol por Retegui. Tres minutos después River, con una buena contra comandada por Barco, Beltrán y Aliendro, casi vuelve a ponerse en ventaja pero el tiro del Chico de las Poesías se fue desviado por el segundo palo por muy poco. A los 30 el Más Grande volvió a hacer un cambio: Juan Fernando Quintero por Rodrigo Aliendro, de flojo partido. A falta de seis minutos para que se cumplan los 45 minutos reglamentarios, Gallardo mandó a la cancha a Matías Suárez en lugar de Pablo César Solari.
Con este empate, el Millonario quedó, momentáneamente, en la sexta posición de la Liga Profesional de Fútbol. Siete partidos ganados, cinco empates y cuatro derrotas.
