Los referentes de River Jonatan Maidana, Javier Pinola, Enzo Pérez, Franco Armani y Milton Casco son baluartes dentro del plantel por su humildad, su ayuda hacia el resto del plantel, su experiencia y su inteligencia. Un equipo y un club formado por jugadores, pero principalmente por personas. Todos ellos siguieron y siguen los pasos de Leonardo Ponzio, el ídolo que supo defender con honor y categoría la camiseta del Más Grande en las buenas y en las malas.
Todos ellos son constantes en el día a día y a pesar de todos tener más de 30 años, siguen entrenándose como si tuvieran 21 y son de los jugadores más importantes del plantel. Y Armani, el mejor y el más importante jugador de River en la Copa Libertadores 2018, está cerca de llegar a un récord inmenso.
Si Armani disputa el partido de mañana ante Defensa y Justicia por los octavos de final de la Copa Argentina (si no sucede ningún imprevisto, jugará como lo viene haciendo siempre de titular) alcanzará la cifra de 200 partidos con el Manto Sagrado, un récord que sólo alcanzaron tres jugadores durante toda la Era Gallardo: Milton Casco, Jonatan Maidana y Leonardo Ponzio. Dentro de poco, en 16 partidos, Enzo Pérez conseguirá también meterse en ese selecto grupo de jugadores que superaron los 200 partidos con la camiseta de River.
El Pulpo llegó a River en uno de los mejores años de la historia, en 2018, para cubrir el vacío que nunca se pudo llenar desde la partida de Marcelo Barovero el 14 de mayo de 2016. Debutó con el Manto Sagrado el 3 de febrero de 2018 en la victoria por 2 a 0 ante Olimpo de Bahía Blanca en el estadio Monumental, logrando su primera valla invicta de las 88 que cuenta actualmente. Recibió 151 goles y dio una asistencia. Si, una asistencia que fue en el tercer gol del Millonario en la vuelta de la final de la Recopa Sudamericana 2019 en la cual con un saque largo al minuto 94, con el partido ya liquidado, lo capturó Matías Suárez que sin temor amagó al arquero y definió el 3-0 para conquistar la tercera Recopa Sudamericana.
El “1” del Más Grande y de la Selección Argentina conquistó 7 títulos usando el buzo de River Plate: Supercopa Argentina 2018, Copa Libertadores 2018, Recopa Sudamericana 2019, Copa Argentina 2019, Supercopa Argentina 2021, Liga Profesional de Fútbol 2021 y Trofeo de Capeones 2021.
