No es la primera vez que River llega al final de la temporada con esa incertidumbre de si juega o no la Copa Libertadores. De hecho, el año pasado logró la clasificación luego de haber ganado el campeonato de la Liga Profesional. Sería una catástrofe para el club que no se logre conseguir la clasificación debido a que La Banda dijo presente en las ultimas ocho ediciones que se disputaron (todas desde que se encuentra el DT más ganador de la historia del club porque llegó en la mitad de la Copa Sudamericana).
La derrota ante Talleres de Córdoba no solo lo dejó prácticamente afuera de la lucha por el campeonato local al equipo del Muñeco Gallardo, sino que también lo complicó de cara a la próxima Copa Libertadores a jugarse el año entrante. Con el bicampeonato de la Liga Profesional de Fútbol muy lejos, la clasificación al torneo más importante de América a nivel clubes pasó a ser la primera prioridad para el equipo de Marcelo Gallardo, pero para eso solo tiene dos balas: Ganar la Copa Argentina o quedar entre los cuatro primeros puestos de la tabla anual (Todos los puntos conseguidos en la Copa de la Liga 2022 y la Liga Profesional de Fútbol) cuando finalice este presente torneo local argentino.
La victoria de Racing y las derrotas de Gimnasia y Estudiantes, dejó a la tabla anual que clasifica a las Copas Libertadores y Sudamericana, respectivamente, prácticamente igual. Los de Avellaneda estiraron su ventaja a 67 puntos; Boca, campeón de la Copa de la Liga y ya clasificado a la Copa Libertadores 2023, tiene un punto menos que los dirigidos por Fernando Gago; el Millonario River, con 61 puntos, sigue con el segundo boleto y el Lobo, con 60, se está quedando, momentáneamente, con el último lugar.
Así está River en la tabla anual luego de la derrota de Gimnasia y la victoria de Racing:
Luego de la derrota ante la T, el Millonario recibiría al día siguiente una buena noticia porque, a pesar de que ganó Racing, Gimnasia de La Plata y Estudiantes de La Plata perdieron ante Tigre por 1-0 y Atlético Tucumán por 3-1, respectivamente, y lo dejaron al Más Grande, por lo menos hasta la próxima fecha, en la tercera posición de la clasificación a la Copa Libertadores 2023.
