De a poco se van dando a conocer algunos detalles sobre como será la nueva Copa Diego Maradona donde se destaca el clásico interzonal.
El fin de semana del 14 de febrero comenzaría una nueva Copa Diego Maradona que tendrá un formato similar al que tuvo el fútbol argentino en 2016. Finalmente, no tendrá la presencia del VAR que empezará a usarse en julio.
Liga Profesional decidió que el nombre del torneo siga homenajeando al astro argentino que falleció en noviembre del año pasado. Además, resta la confirmación si será considerado como Copa nacional o como Torneo.
Los 26 equipos que conforman la Copa Diego Maradona estarán divididos en dos zonas y jugarán todos contra todos. Además de estas 12 fechas, cada club tendrá una zona interzonal que será su clásico; de esta manera se buscará que no haya equipos que queden libres de acciones los fines de semana.
A diferencia de la última Zona Campeonato, los cuatro primeros de cada grupo pasarán a los cuartos de final del torneo que se definirá mano a mano a partido único. La intención es que la primera parte del torneo finalice el 9 de mayo y el partido definitorio el 30 del mismo mes.
Hasta ahí estará diagramado el torneo local por parte de la Liga Profesional que frenará debido a la Copa América. Luego del certamen de selecciones, la intención de la organización es diagramar un torneo todos contra todos y que sea el debut del VAR en un competencia nacional.
